Nomination forms are now available at the IEEE office and here. Deadline for submission of the nomination forms is 4th March 2008 by 4:00PM. Here is a link to the descriptions for the various positions of the Executive Committee.
Please review our constitution, Article VIII, to find out what it takes to be an eligible candidate for any given position.
An elections committee consisting of the current IEEE Chair and the outgoing executives will be interviewing prospective candidates.

IEEE Computer Society's Richard E. Merwin award has just been granted to our very own Farhad Khan.

Congratulations to Farhad for winning such a prestigious award!!! We are very pleased that Farhad has been acknowledged for all of his hard work as Chair of the Computer Society Chapter. This not only reflects well on the chapter but the branch as a whole. Great work Farhad!!!

We are now signing up new volunteers to help maintain the office and to organize the upcoming events.
This is a great opportunity to get involved, improve your interpersonal skills and network with fellow IEEE members and industry representatives. You can volunteer even if you are not currently an IEEE member. To volunteer at the office, sign up online or write down your name on the timesheet we have on the door of the office. Don't forget, this definitely is something you can add to your resume.

Date: 2006-07-10 IEEE Computer Society Chapter

IEEE Carleton University is proud to announce the launch of IEEE Computer Society Chapter this Summer.

The Computer Society Chapter will extend the activities of the student brach to the academic streams like Computer Systems Engineering, Software Engineering and Computer Science. Chaired by Farhad Khan, Computer Systems Engineering III, and Professor Trevor Pearce, Dept. of Systems and Computer Engineering as the Faculty Advisor, the chapter will start it's activities through administering free Linux tutorials for the Engineering students, organizing a first year programming contest and possibly conducting some research work on RFID.

Date: 2006-06-20 Outstanding Branch Counselor Award 2006

Dr. Calvin Plett, Associate Professor at the Department of Electronics, has been awarded the 2006 IEEE Outstanding Branch Counselor Award. The award aims to recognize the efforts of Branch Counselors whose dedication and efforts exemplify the IEEE's commitment to educational, personal, professional and technical developments of students.

The award is presented annually and carries a monetary prize and personalized certificate. There were seven recipients of the award worldwide.

Dr. Plett joined the Department of Electronics at Carleton University in 1989. He received a B.A.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo (1982) and a M.Eng (1986) and Ph.D. (1991) degrees from Carleton University. Before joining Carleton, he worked in industry for many companies including the Atomic Energy of Canada, Xerox and Bell-Northern Research. He has been the counselor of the IEEE Carleton Student Branch for 15 years.

IEEE Carleton UIniversity has recently won 2nd prize in the IEEE Student Branch Web-design contest within Canada.

We have successfully come to an end of another successful year at the IEEE. IEEE office will be closed until next fall. Thanks to all the volunteers for their dedicated effort to keep office running even in such a busy schedule. We wish everyone a good luck on exams and a nice summer. The new executive team will take over all responsibilities starting May 2006.

IEEE Carleton University executive elections have been rescheduled!

Nomination forms are now available at the IEEE office. Deadline of submission of the nomination forms is Monday, February 27, 2006 at 4:00 pm.

Interviews will be held on the same day (Monday, Feb 27, 2006) at 5:00 pm. An elections committee consisting of the current IEEE Chair and the outgoing executives will be interviewing prospective candidates.

The annual general meeting (AGM) will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at 6 pm, at MC 5050. Candidates for contesting positions may present their speeches at that time.

General Elections will be held on Wednesday, March 1st and Thursday, March 2nd at the IEEE Office during regular office hours.

We are now signing up office volunteers for Winter 2006. The volunteers are responsible for holding the office for 1 hour in their designated time slots.

New Sign Ups will only be accepted online from now on. Please sign up from the Sign Up link in our home page. The sooner you sign up the better time slots you will get. There is no deadline to it.

Half year membership is now on sale !! It's only $15 for a 6 months' membership. To get the discounted price, please follow the signup link in our homepage, sign up online but don't pay. Print out the application form and submit it to our office. Ignore the regular price that shows up in your printed form, just pay $15 (canadian) at our office when submitting your application.

The discounted rate is only $35.
Sign up early and enjoy the benefits of being an IEEE member right from today.

The discounted price is valid until October 14th, 2005. After that, Membership Applications will only be accepted for the next year. However, you will still be considered as a member at the IEEE Carleton Office as long as you can present the membership receipt given to you. .

Date: 2005-06-20 Change in e-mail address !

The official e-mail address of IEEE Carleton University has been changed from ieee-at-doe-dot-carleton-dot-ca to the new sb-dot-carleton-at-ieee-dot-org. All correspondance should be directed to this new e-mail address from now on. However, the old address will still be kept active for a short period of time to allow a smooth transition.

IEEE memberships are sold twice a year - in the beginning of the Fall and Winter semesters. In Fall, full year memberships are sold for the following year from Jan to Dec. In the Winter, only half-year memberships are sold.

For the IEEE 2004 membership, the regular price for full-year membership is $42 and the six-month membership is $25. There is a promotional discount during the first month of term (i.e. September and January)

For Fall: 1 year membership is $35.
For Winter: Prices will be notified.

The IEEE Membership is now filled online at www.ieee.org and instructions are posted in the office. In order to receive the discount special rate, the applicant must fill out the membership form at the office, choose cash as the payment option, and print out a copy in the office. Then, the printed form and cash is given to the volunteer in charge of the office, who in return provides a receipt.

Our Student Branch has won the 2003 Student Branch Website Design Contest in Canada and received a runner-up for the IEEE Worldwide Student Branch Web Site Contest Sponsored by the Student Activities Committee Duriing the 2002-2003 academic year!
