IEEE Carleton University Student Branch

About Us

IEEE International

The IEEE has over 377 000 members in 150 countries divided into 10 Regions (of which IEEE Cananda is Region 7), and 300 local Sections. Members have the ability to join any number of 37 technical Societies. 1000 Student Branches are located accross the world and usually interact quite closely with the local sections for industry contacts and other support. IEEE Ottawa Section is the local section with which IEEE Carleton associates with.

To get a picture of how the IEEE is organized and how the Student Branches fit in to the big picture, visit the "Clickable" IEEE Regional World Map and these flow charts. To see the IEEE's purpose, check out its vision and mission.

IEEE Carleton

IEEE Carleton is administered by a student member elected IEEE Carleton Executive as well as the Branch Counselor who is to be nominated by the current executive, every 2 years. Office volunteers as well as other volunteers aid the exectutive in organizing events and services for their members

IEEE Carleton Vision

We at IEEE Carleton will encourage the development of Canada's future technology workers, academically, and professionally. We will encourage networking to exchange ideas that lead to innovation. We will encourage personal and academic development by exchanging ideas. We will encourage reaching out and helping others.

IEEE Carleton Executive, Branch Counselor, and Constitution

The Officers of the branch are Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. Their roles are described in the constitution as well as the new executive defined executive roles. The Branch Counselor provides support in everything the branch decides to pursue, by providing ideas, advice, and contacts. He also ensures that the branch is administered in accordance with IEEE regulations.

Other members of the executive are either elected or appointed by the current exec to help spread out the work involved in running the IEEE Office as well as organizing events.

To ensure that each consecutive executive team maintains or improves the quality of services to their members as well as membership numbers, IEEE Carleton adopted its constitution in March 2002.

IEEE Carleton's Sister Branch

IEEE Carleton and IEEE Student Branch de Passau in Germany initiated a sistership in 2001 after some of the executives met at a student branch conference in Mexico. Since then, some members of IEEE de Passau have visited Canada for SPAV 2002, a conference organized by IEEE Carleton. Hopefully, the relationship will develop further and more joint activities will be undertaken in the future.
